Reviews about TRI UK
- ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆2017-08-26, by Pete DownesOur kids wanted BMX bikes for Christmas, so while I was working, my wife started looking around various shops for suitable bikes. She ended up at Tri UK Yeovil, where she saw two bikes she thought suited the bill. She paid a deposit to hold the bikes until I had time to look at them. On the weekend, we went to the store together, and it soon became apparent to me that she had chosen jump bikes instead of BMX bikes. The frames were long and extremely heavy – too heavy for our kids at their age, and obviously not a traditional BMX bike. Not what the kids wanted. I asked for our deposit back and we were told my wife had entered into a contract by giving the store a deposit for the bikes, and that it was non refundable. She had paid a large deposit, nearly half the value of the bikes, so it was too much for us to give up and walk away from. This was to be the main Christmas present for each of our kids, and it wasn’t suitable, so I practically begged the man to take pity on us and let us have our money back, but he would not. We ended up paying the remainder of the money and taking the bikes, after a lot of argument. We handed the bikes over to our kids on Christmas morning with gritted teeth, robbed of the joy you get from seeing your kids’ appreciation of their present and, as predicted, the kids hardly played with them, because they were too heavy and they kept hurting themselves. In the end, after a few months saving up, we went to Halfords and bought them a couple of cheap BMX bikes to tide them over. The expensive jump bikes were sold on for twenty quid each, as that was all we could get for them, despite them being so new. Frankly, I put myself in the shop assistant’s (short, middle aged guy) place when selling the bikes, and I couldn’t picture myself being that miserly. He ruined my Christmas and cost me a lot of money, caused some friction between myself and my wife, and was indirectly responsible for my kids sadness and minor injuries, and for what? The bikes were already in stock, so it’s not like they ordered them in especially for us, and we would have bought BMX from them anyway, so what would be lost? Personally, I think it’s punctilious, bloody-minded and arrogant to do this to people buying Christmas presents for their kids, but there’s nothing I can do about it other than write this review. Needless to say, I will never again buy anything from them as long as I live, and I will do my best to ensure nobody else spends their money there either. I think TRI UK are scum.
